Ai Pono Maui, Hawaii’s premier eating disorder treatment center, is a boutique eight-bed residential facility located fifteen minutes from the Maui airport.  Founded by Dr. Anita Johnston, author of Eating In the Light of the Moon, we offer RTC (residential treatment 7×24), PHP (partial hospitalization) IOP (intensive outpatient) levels of care in a peaceful home-like setting with lush gardens and picturesque views of the ocean.  Our care is compassionate, comprehensive, and tailored to the unique needs of each patient.   We address medical, nutritional and therapeutic needs, including treatment for trauma and substance abuse.  We provide individual, group, family and couples therapy, as needed.

The journey to recovery begins with uncovering the deep symbolic meaning underlying the eating disorder.  To that end, we use a variety of techniques, from depth psychology and psychodynamics, to mindfulness and art therapy, depending on the individual needs of the patient.  We use evidence-based approaches such as CBT & DBT to teach the life skills necessary to nourish (‘ai) oneself and restore balance (pono). Our highly trained staff is available 24/7 to provide individual support.

Eating Disorder Hope Treatment Philosophy

The search for eating disorder treatment is overwhelming but critically important. Whether facing anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder, beginning treatment with a professional who specializes in eating disorders is vital to successful recovery.

After hearing about this problem from not only patients and families, but also other clinical professionals, Eating Disorder Hope launched the Anorexia, Bulimia & Binge Eating Disorder Treatment Centers Directory,  the Eating Disorder Therapist & Specialist Directory and the Featured Eating Disorder Centers Library. The resources in these directories can help you explore and compare treatment and recovery options, including outpatient, inpatient, and residential treatment providers.
